Rainbow Blog

Rainbow traditionally gets its best snowfalls in September as the Antarctic oscillation weakens and this year is no exception. Tuesday saw 10-15cm of fresh cold light powder over the entire field on top of the existing 1.5M or thereabouts base (yes, our official depths on the snow reports are very conservative - just check out how much of the 2M snow fences on the field are buried next time you're up). Coming from the south-west this snow was delivered with cold temperatures and light winds - the perfect combination for great skiing off-piste.

Of course our groomer was hard at work keeping the main runs groomed for those who prefer not to stray off-piste (the grooming has been great this year, hasn't it?)

We're expecting a bit more of this over the next few days so keep an eye on the snow report and clear your diary - most of the RWC games are at night so no excuses there!

Hey thanks Rainbow and Mother Nature for a great powder day on Wednesday. Amazing time, lots of smiles and happy people. A better effort to get the T-Bar going at 9am would sure make your early powder punters more happy. This is not the first time this has happened within this season. Yesterday 9.15, earlier this season 9.20am. Late starts just make me itchy. The other 30+ riders lined up behind me, sure weren't looking impressed. Watching a few staff get fresh lines in before the T is going and the reason for the delay - "groomer to come back down from the race course", was frustrating and incredulous. I've ridden the main runs with the groomer coming and going, so that was a weird call. It was a talking point. Hey, but other than that, it was an epic day. Thanks.

Awesome day on Wednesday. Perfect, evenly laid dry powder - best for three years! I have to agree with Bridget. Making the effort to get there early and then having to wait in the queue because the groomer was working is pretty lame. I should have said I was in the race team - then it owuld have been ok. Very strange! Room for improvement and consistency here mountain manager please. You've got a great team, just a few tweaks please.
