Employment Opportunities for the 2012 Season

Rainbow Ski Area is now accepting employment applications for all positions for the 2012 Season. Opportunities include:
  • Lifts Supervisor
    • You will have experience operating ski lifts including surface lifts (T-Bar and Platter), and have some supervisory experience.
    • Experience with routine lifts maintenance would be an advantage
    • A working knowledge of Rainbow's lift infrastructure would be an advantage.
    • On-mountain accommodation provided and a requirement of this position.
  • Lifts Operators
    • You will have a positive attitude and enjoy working with the public.
    • Previous lifts operation experience an advantage
  • Ticket Office Supervisor
    • You will have extensive experience providing first line customer service
    • You will have a working knowledge of Rainbow's products and services
    • You will have experience working with POS systems, including Intouch Ultima preferably
    • You will have a high level of literacy and numeracy, including familiarity with standard computer applications
  • Ticket Office Staff
    • You will have a positive attitude and enjoy working with the public.
    • Experience working with POS systems including Intouch would be an advantage
    • A working knowledge of Rainbow's products and services would be an advantage 
  • Rentals Supervisor
    • You will have extensive experience working in ski & board rentals operations
    • You will have a working knowledge of Rainbow's rental products and services
    • You will have some supervisory experience
    • Ski or Snowboard technician qualifications would be an advantage.
  • Rentals Staff
    • You will have a positive attitude and enjoy working with the public.
    • Previous rentals operation experience an advantage
    • Ski or Snowboard technician qualifications would be an advantage.
  • Ski Patrol Supervisor
    • You will have extensive knowledge and experience of Rainbow's operations and environment
    • You will have a minimum of PHEC (or equivalent), Level 1 Avy, and snow blasting qualifications. Level 2 Avy would be an advantage
    • You will have some supervisory experience
    • You will have a high level of skiing or snowboarding ability.
  • Ski Patrollers
    • You will have a minimum of PHEC (or equivalent) and Level 1 Avy qualifications. Snow blasting and Level 2 Avy would be an advantage.
    • You will have a high level of skiing or snowboarding ability.
    • You will have a positive attitude and enjoy working with the public.
    • Previous ski patrol experience would be an advantage
    • Familiarity with Rainbow's operations and environment would be an advantage
  • Ski School Supervisor
    • You will have extensive ski or snowboard instructing & supervisory experience
    • You will have extensive experience providing first line customer service
    • You will have at least Level II NZSIA/PSIA/BASI (or equivalent) ski or snowboard instructing qualifications. Level III or higher would be an advantage
    • Ski or snowboard race coaching experience would be an advantage
  • Ski & Board Instructors
    • You will have at least Level I NZSIA/PSIA/BASI (or equivalent) ski or snowboard instructing qualifications. Level II or higher would be an advantage
    • You will have a positive attitude and enjoy working with the public.
    • You will be prepared to work in other areas of Rainbow's operations from time to time as required.
    • Ski or Snowboard coaching qualifications and experience would be an advantage
  • Maintenance Supervisor
    • You will have extensive experience servicing diesel engines and vehicles
    • You will have a current valid drivers license with WTR endorsement
    • You will have some supervisory experience
    • Familiarity with Rainbow's plant and equipment would be an advantage
    • Experience servicing Kassbohrer snow groomers would be an advantage
    • Experience servicing surface lift equipment (T-Bar & Platter) would be an advantage.
    • Experience servicing low-voltage systems would be an advantage
    • Welding qualifications and experience would be an advantage
    • On-mountain accommodation provided and a requirement of this position.
  • Road & Maintenance Staff
    • You will have a current valid drivers license with WTR endorsement
    • You will have experience servicing diesel engines and vehicles
    • Experience with snow-clearance operations would be an advantage
    • Experience servicing low-voltage systems would be an advantage
    • Welding qualifications and experience would be an advantage
    • On-mountain accommodation provided and a requirement of this position.
  • Snowmaking Crew
    • You will have previous snowmaking operations experience
    • Familiarity with Rainbow's snowmaking infrastructure would be an advantage
    • On-mountain accommodation provided and a requirement of this position.
    • Note that this position is only for the period from early June to late July, so ability to fill one of the other roles above would be an advantage.
  • Groomer Operators
    • You will have previous groomer operating experience, preferably in Kassbohrer groomers
    • You will have a current valid drivers license with WTR endorsement
    • Familiarity with Rainbow's terrain and grooming infrastructure would be an advantage
    • On-mountain accommodation provided and a requirement of this position.

    All prospective candidates must be eligible to work in New Zealand, and be able to communicate to an acceptable standard in spoken English. Rainbow operates in a high alpine environment so all prospective candidates must be prepared and able to work in all weather conditions, and also be prepared to help out in other areas of mountain operations if required.

    About Rainbow
    Rainbow Ski Area is operated by Rainbow Sports Club Inc. The ski area has one main lift a T-Bar, 1 Platter, 1 Learners tow, and 2 tows servicing the Terrain Park and access to the West bowl.
    We have ski and board rental, cafeteria and retail shop.
    We operate two Kassbohrer snow groomers and have a snow making system.

    Work Environment
    Rainbow Ski Area is a friendly professional workplace set in an idyllic mountain environment at the start of New Zealand’s Southern Alps. Beyond Rainbow Mountain Sports Inc, the staff the and the local community have a strong sense of pride in what they have achieved in establishing the “Best small to medium sized ski area in New Zealand" for both the 2004 and 2005 seasons. With a strong sense of fun, family and community, Rainbow will always keep the focus on customer AND employee satisfaction.

    Location
    Rainbow Ski Area is located at the top of the South Island in the scenic Nelson Lakes area 1hr30min drive from Nelson or Blenheim and 4hr 30min drive from Christchurch.
    The closest town is St Arnaud Village beside Lake Rotoiti and the Nelson Lakes National  Park.

    Season
    The operating season typically runs from Late June through to early Oct, this is very much dependent on snow levels and can vary.

    Staff
    Rainbow employs up to 30 staff for the winter. All staff are required to work as a team and will be asked from time to help out in other areas of the ski field operation. Training is provided and some of the attributes we look for are:

    * A willingness to get on with others
    * Professional attitude towards work
    * A commitment to providing an enjoyable experience for our guests

    Overseas Applicants
    All overseas applicants must have a valid work visa

    Australian citizens are legally entitled to work in New Zealand

    Uniforms
    All staff are supplied with a uniform to suit their particular job. All uniforms must be returned when employment ceases.  Staff must supply their own boots or shoes, thermal underwear, sunglasses and sunscreen.
    Instructors and Ski Patrol must supply their own skis and boards.
    Allowances are paid  as a part of the wage to contribute towards the extra cost of these items.

    Staff Transport
    Free transport is provided to all staff on duty from St Arnaud Village to the ski field and return.
    If staff are asked by Mountain Management to provide there own transport a travel allowance will be paid.
