Rainbow Ski Area Manager
Rainbow Sports Club is seeking a Ski Area Manager to manage and coordinate the Rainbow Ski Area including all aspects of on-mountain operations, maintenance and infrastructure.
Located in Rainbow Valley, near St Arnaud Nelson Lakes, Rainbow Ski Area is a club owned & operated ski field operating on a commercial basis, with a team of approximately forty seasonal staff. You will be responsible for pre-season field preparation and in-season operations for the 2018 & subsequent seasons. You will report to the General Manager, Rainbow Sports Club, who is responsible for overall club operations.
This is a multi-facetted role ideally suited to an individual with five or more years’ management or supervisory experience in a broad range of ski field operational areas. Your previous ski industry experience will include experience with ski lift infrastructure, access roads, snowmaking, grooming & snow management, customer services, snow school, alpine utilities & buildings maintenance, ski industry health and safety systems, and compliance record keeping & reporting. A comprehensive understanding of relevant industry codes of practice and standards is essential. You will need a current full NZ drivers licence including wheels, rollers and tracks endorsement. Relevant ski industry technical qualifications or ski industry tertiary qualifications would be highly beneficial.

Rainbow Workparty & Maintenance Coordinator
Rainbow Sports Club is also seeking a part-time, casual Workparty & Maintenance Coordinator to assist the Ski Area Manager with the management and coordination of summer facilities maintenance, with a primary focus on volunteer recruitment & coordination, and management of volunteer maintenance of buildings and terrain assets.
Rainbow Ski Area operates a maintenance programme each summer and autumn that generally runs from February until the start of the ski season in July. Part of this programme is carried out by member volunteers who focus primarily on low-skill & medium skilled tasks including buildings maintenance (painting, minor repairs), terrain maintenance and clean up, access road maintenance (culvert inspections etc.) and other low-medium skill tasks. We are seeking a person to coordinate and manage the activities of these volunteers for the 2018 summer & autumn period. Note that maintenance of mechanical assets including lifts, groomers, vehicles, snow-making infrastructure is normally carried out using a combination of paid staff and contractors and is managed by the Ski Area Manager; while the Workparty & Maintenance Coordinator may be called upon to assist the Ski Area Manager with these tasks this will not be a primary focus of this role.
We are looking for someone with the following attributes:
•Practical experience in building and facilities maintenance,
•Practical knowledge of ski area maintenance and/or maintenance in alpine environments an advantage,
•Practical experience operating under formal Health and Safety Management systems,
•Competent computer user for record-keeping, email communications and reporting,
•Full, clean NZ driver’s license. WTR endorsement an advantage,
•Able to work flexible hours including weekends and some evenings,
•Excellent communication skills and practical positive approach essential.
•Available to start immediately.
•Hours: Part-time/casual, fixed term. Approx. 12 hours per week for 12-16 weeks (February to May)
•Vehicle for work purposes, computer and hourly rate of $30/hr offered.
